Roberto came to House of Refuge Sunnyslope in 2005. He was struggling with an addiction to methamphetamines. He knew he needed help. He tried other programs, but they weren’t Christian or they didn’t allow him to work. He needed to work to cover child support.
“I knew I needed to change and I felt a Christian organization could be the answer.”
Roberto’s story was presented at our 30th Anniversary Gala, April 21, 2018.
This was his “life verse” :
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1: 1-3
Consistency is Key
Being consistent and sticking to a schedule helped Roberto get his life back on the right track. His perspective and view started to change. His walk with Christ strengthened.
- Dinner and prayer every night
- Celebrate Recovery on Fridays
- Bible Studies Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays
- Church on Sundays
“God has shown me great grace… the men, the staff, the volunteers, were all very gracious towards me.”
Roberto continues to pass on God’s grace to others by hiring men into his business.
“The first thing he wanted to do was pray.” ~Michael, employee
“God blessed me with a wife that would never have entertained a date with me if she had known how I used to live. Since I was walking with Christ and came with good references, I was blessed to spend time with her and eventually marry her. I prayed for a woman like her and God answered my prayer! She is Christ-centered and a great wife and mother.”
