Quincy: He Turned His Life Over to God

Twenty years of drug abuse landed him in prison. He was married with a 5 year-old daughter at the time. Because of his daughter, he vowed to never do it again. He’s been clean ever since.

Quincy was baptized at First Christian Church of Phoenix recently and this was his testimony.

A year ago, he turned his life over to God…

“I put Him in control and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done…. He guides me everyday where He wants me to go and it’s amazing.”

He quotes Jeremiah 29:11-13:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Quincy works at The Duce Restaurant as a dishwasher, but he says he does “everything”. He loves his job and hopes to stay there as long as he can.

He heard about House or Refuge Sunnyslope (HRS) in prison from a friend. Abel, our men’s program manager interviewed him and he became a resident in June of this year. He’s now moved from a dorm room (which he shared with another resident) to one of the shared houses where he has in own bedroom.

A critical component of the program at HRS is regular meetings to set goals.   A residents meets with their program manager and learns how to plan for the future, manage a budget, and set short term and long term goals.  These meetings with Abel are giving Quincy a focus.

Quincy’s goal is to save enough money to buy a house for himself, his wife and 9-year-old daughter. He’s also working on rebuilding his relationship with his little sister.

His favorite Bible verse comes from the “Love Chapter”, 1 Corinthians 13. He says he likes what it says about love:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.”

At the end of the video he says:

“God’s plan is working in me and it’s the best feeling I’ve ever had!”
