God provides for our ministry at House of Refuge Sunnyslope (HRS) in so many ways…
We are grateful to the Arizona Diamondbacks for selecting HRS as a recipient of a Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Award!
This generous award will allow us to replaceour two aging kitchen vans, used 5 days a week to pick up donated food which provides for all three of our housing programs
The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation has awarded $55 million to Arizona nonprofits since its inception in 1997. Through their grant process, a total of 10 non-profits were awarded $706,000 in one evening!
Accepting the award were representatives from key areas of our ministry. Julie Supplee and June Taylor represented our staff and Board of Directors, respectively. Representing our crucial volunteer base was Lou Vitiello and our residents were represented by Josh S.
For over 7 years, Lou has volunteered two mornings a week picking up food in these vans. In addition, Lou teaches Bible studies one night a week. You might recognize him from our baptism photos – he leads our men through baptism preparations. Josh S. is our men’s night manager and shoulders some of the responsibilities overnight and on the weekends for the men’s program.
“What an exciting milestone for our ministry to be selected for this Award. Praise God for providing for us in so many ways. We are thankful for the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and the opportunity to attend a game and be recognized, along with 9 other nonprofits, for the work HRS does. Everyone in the Diamondbacks organization was helpful and encouraging, you can tell they enjoy using the Foundation to help communities throughout Arizona.”
Julie Supplee, Executive Director
