Ed’s childhood held a sense of normalcy. He was an intelligent young man who breezed through school and decided to go to massage therapy school as his vocation. He married, had a son and felt life was healthy.

The rush of life began to bring pressure and temptation from the world and drugs started to be peppered throughout his daily routines. The downward spiral of defeat began. His wife of 13 years, who he held up on a pedestal, asked for a divorce.  Soon Ed sunk deeper and became lost in a destructive lifestyle. He knew of a higher power but rejected God. This 10-12-year addiction to heroin and meth had a physical hold on him that just would not let go. It gripped his mind and body completely, taking over who he was.

“My soul became bankrupt inside!” Ed

In 2016, suicide began to threaten his thoughts and led him to the hospital. His son was his lifesaver and came alongside Ed to love him unconditionally. At that moment, the love of his son changed his life and gave him hope. Right there in the hospital, Ed heard a voice speaking to his heart saying “you will be ok”. There was an immediate magnetic pull to believe in God and let him into his heart. A movement was taking place in his spirit letting him know he was wasting his life, and he needed to change.

In 2018, Ed had a conversation with a former resident who told him that the program could help him get on his feet. He didn’t realize the impact the ministry would have on him but found the Bible Studies were key to his growth. Ed knew God was calling him to be obedient, though it was contrary to his rebellious spirit. One of the four key pillars of our Vision for Victory is being open to God. As Ed became more and more open to God, he began to change and grow.

The goal-setting meetings held with Abel, the Men’s Program Manager, were a struggle for Ed because he had to submit to authority. He wrestled with this concept but knew this was a key factor to a changed life. He began to SEEK TO OBEY GOD and that included the rules and authority that God brought into his life.

In October 2018, Ed was baptized at Pure Heart Church and the transformation of change continued as God was after his heart. He began to ponder his future and decided to change his career path. Today, Ed works fulltime and is finishing his Certificate in Digital Marketing, with the help of our scholarship program.

Ed has successfully moved on with hope for the future.  Since his heart has been open to God, there is a constant desire to OBEY in all things. He wants to do God’s will and only walk through the right doors. His prayer is that God will continue to teach him not to force closed doors open and to be led to God’s open doors for his life. He is forever thankful to be changed!

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Pet 5:6-7

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert”.  Isa 43:19
